Helios House Project, Los Angeles CA, by Johnston Marklee

Helio House engages the urban, car-oriented culture of Los Angeles as a landscape for architectural invention. As a laboratory, the project aims to take small steps towards a sustainable future, beginning with up-cycling, a process which aims to conserve key resources whenever possible. Helios House transforms the existing features of the site incorporating green building features into the project.

These elements were "re-grouped" into four design features " The canopy, the back structure, the ground, and the sign" that define a new identity for station and establish enhanced performance standards for the facility. with key sustainability foctors relating to the design of water, heat and energy, lighting, and material system, Helios House provides an educational experience that engages the public and offers precedent for environmental stewardship.
